Napoleon and I thank you for another good year (a busy one, but a really good one). We'll see ya'll tomorrow.

t was a big day for post cards in the mail today--four total, including this one that's actually from a friend of mine. One more state that I didn't have in my collection can be crossed off!

University big wigs decided that faculty should call all admitted fall students to try to woo them to the uni. That meant all the undeclared students fell on my group--so tonight we split up a giant list and stayed
after work to make calls to potential students. Longest day ever. I worked a regular day then stayed and made phone calls to like 60 students. I have no future as a telemarketer. The upside? I do have a couple of rock stars on my team, like this one. She moved in, got comfortable, and
had fun with it. AND stayed til the bitter end and probably made twice as many calls as some other people. I'm lucky to have folks like her on my team.

It was a super long day today and will be tomorrow, too. So, you get a photo of surprises Clint brought home for me this weekend in honor of my new job.

Made my first ever cake from scratch today to round out Clint's birthday celebration--red velvet with oreo cream cheese frosting. I think it turned out pretty well despite some mishaps along the way (I think he already
mentioned my accidental punching of an overhead light and the red food coloring everywhere that made it look like I'd severed my hand...)

Big news! (that I can finally publicly share) I agreed to shift to an interim job this semester--a job I'd considered applying for full-time previously. Due to some budget things that are going on, two weeks ago my
bosses offered me a regular (non-interim) position that includes the best of both this current job and my regular job. I jumped at the opportunity, obviously. The contract has all the necessary signatures on it now, and the celebration can begin!

Life has been really good lately, but I've been really uninspired to take photos. So this is another last minute, on my way to bed shot.

How to keep this story short? Yesterday I talked to one of the academic adviors about improving our note-taking on student meetings, and she came in this morning to tell me she'd had an idea. Said some folks in her department had given her the contact information for this great guy who has come in and trained them on some really useful computer stuff. She handed me this note. Clint's contact information. :) Totally forgot that he's been doing trainings on campus--we had a good laugh as the pieces came
together in my head in slow motion. Was fun to tell him how highly he's spoken of on campus, at least!

This is my favorite coffee mug. A good friend gave it to me years ago and I use it every day (the handle doubles as a clip for handy transport).
Last week, I forgot that I left it outside the campus bookstore. When I realized this morning what I'd done, I was heartbroken. Then I went down to look for it--sure enough, right where I left it. Whether folks left it alone because they don't drink coffee or didn't want an old coffee mug, the
fact remains that no one threw it away or bothered it. This is a weird place to live, but the people are some of the most honest (and kind, often) that I've met.

Continued working our way through the local parade of homes today. Not so impressed this year as in years past, but I DID really like these light fixtures/displays in this kitchen area. I'm sure the house was probably only about $600K. No problem (giant eye roll)

And home again. Picked the mutts up on our way home--we board them at a place where they play with other dogs all day, so they're always totally beat when we pick them up. This right here is the face of one seriously
happy Lab.

As part of Clint's birthday celebration, we went to see Taylor Hicks at a small venue at Paris. The music was really, really good, and he's really entertaining beyond that. Totally better than I expected--like enough so that I'd go again. We stopped for a quick photo before heading to dessert to wrap up the festivities.

This is Teddy (not really his name). This weekend, he's attempting to break a couple of hugging world records while raising money for the American Heart Association. So he's standing out on the strip collecting
hugs--hopefully we'll find out our hugs were part of the new records! It was way fun watching how hesitant people were but then how full of smiles they were after giving/receiving a hug. Restored a bit of my faith in humanity.

My Valentine (or "Loventine," as I called him at one point... it might stick!). Had a great dinner, hung out at the Bellagio fountains (that's where I took this one), and got in great people-watching (including watching a couple get married right by the fountains, which was very cute).

Leaving tomorrow for a long weekend in Vegas for Valentines Day and Clint's birthday. Had to get everything ready to go tonight to take with us, including gift wrapping. I'm exhausted, so I wasn't feeling much like preparing to celebrate.

Arrived back in my office to find surprise cookies and a super funny card from Lauren this afternoon. Day made. :)

Snow storms moving through all day... The sky looked much darker than it shows up here. Regardless, it was cold and grey and I'm tired of it.
